Version 2.8 : March 18, 2025
- There are now new versions of the US Topo maps and the 2.5 m/pixel imagery for the following states: AL, AR, CT, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, LA, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, OR, PR, RI, SC, VI, VT and WA. There are partial updates for AK. These maps support the Overlay blend mode.
- To update to these new maps, the screen now has an “Update” action. When this is selected, the grid shows those maps where an update is available.
- The app now includes a Safari extension that can replace links to map websites (e.g. Google Maps, OpenStreetMap) with links that open this app.
- New “View In”s are available for Organic Maps and WikiNearby.
- The Panorama screen now has a maximum distance setting, to limit views to realistic distances when visibility is imperfect.
- When the app runs on a Mac in “Designed for iPad” mode, keyboard-and-mouse-friendly zoom buttons are now shown in photo, panorama and graph screens.
- 10m/pixel imagery has been added for the Nevada Test Area, where the 2.5m/pixel imagery is not available.
- The app’s URL handler now accepts a mode parameter to set the map mode. It now works with the custom scheme com.topomaps2: as well as the universal link https://topomapsapp.com/maps.
- A bug which caused location accuracies to be shown in meters even when the Distance Units setting was set to miles or miles & feet has been resolved.
- Gestures for zooming and rotating photos and panoramas should now work more smoothly.
- Map for American Samoa, Guam, Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia - traditional USGS topos, 10m/pixel imagery and terrain data only - should now work properly.
- Map for the Aleutian Islands - US Topo, 2.5m/pixel and 10m/pixel imagery, terrain, and traditional USGS topos at scales of either 1:63,360 or 1:250,000 - should now work properly.

Version 2.7 : February 5, 2025
- The app now has some basic support for the Apple Watch.
- The Settings screen has been reorganized into a number of subsections.
- When the app runs on a Mac in “Designed for iPad” mode a zoom control is shown in the corner of the window, making it possible to navigate with only a mouse.
- A statistics section is now shown at the bottom of the Maps screen, indicating how many maps of each type are installed and how much storage they are occupying.
Version 2.6 : December 2, 2024
- The search box now accepts coordinates.
- You can now prevent the app from sleeping, either unconditionally or only when external power is applied. This could be useful if you have your device in a vehicle mount, or similar.
- A “long touch” on the app’s icon on your home screen will now offer three shortcuts: you can launch the app showing your current location, start a track recording, or search.
- The search screen now remembers your recent searches.
- You can now add web links to waypoints, routes, tracks and GPX files.
- The app now has app icon variants for Dark and Tinted modes.
- A bug which caused tracks and routes to disappear when their metadata was modified has been resolved.
- A bug which which prevented the last update’s increase in the maximum number of maps that can be downloaded at once from working in some circumstances has been fixed.
Version 2.5 : November 1, 2024
- Two types of US Forest Service maps are now available in the app. Forest Topo Legacy is the slightly older and more traditional map which is no longer being updated, and Forest Topo is the new version. To download, select one or other in the list of map types in the Maps screen. Note that by default the USGS maps are preferred where both are downloaded, so the Forest Service maps will not be shown if you have previously downloaded something; consider creating new map modes that prioritize the maps as you want.
- The blend mode used to combine topos with imagery to create the hybrid map can now be adjusted. See the new Hybrid Map Blend Mode section in the Settings screen. In particular the new Forest Service maps contain an alpha channel, so they have more flexibility for blending.
- The maximum number of maps that can be downloaded at once has been increased to 250.
- A bug which caused white map margins to sometimes overlap adjacent maps has been fixed.
