This applies to the US Topo and Forest Service maps, and to the imagery;
the traditional and Canadian maps are unlikely to change.
We’ll periodically fetch any new maps from USGS and/or the Forest Service
and make them available in the app. We’ve done this for the first time in
February 2025, for US Topo maps and 2.5 m/pixel imagery produced in 2024.
New downloads will automatically get the new versions of the maps. The procedure
to update previously-downloaded superseded maps is much like downloading:
Locate your area of interest.
Select an appropriate map mode, i.e. if you only want to
update imagery, choose Imagery mode; to update US Topo, choose Topo.
Tap
to open the Maps screen.Tap
at the top of the screen.Note the list of map types. This will have been set according to
your map mode. Check that the appropriate types are selected.
Note the yellow map grid. If you don’t see any yellow grid,
there is nothing to update.
Select the map(s) that you want to update. You can select individual maps by
tapping on their grid squares, or you can select blocks of maps by doing a long-touch
and then sweeping out an area.
Scroll the Maps screen to the bottom, and tap the blue
button. The new maps will be download.
