The app contains a Safari web browser extension that you can use to replace links
on web pages to map websites (Google Maps, OpenStreetMap etc.) with links that open
this app.
To use the extension, first view a web page that contains map links. For example,
most Wikipedia pages for physical locations contain coordinates that you can tap on
to view a page of map links. The first screenshot shows the
Wikipedia page for Mount Whitney;
tapping on the coordinates (36°34′43″N 118°17′31″W) goes to the
GeoHack - Mount Whitney
page, shown in the second screenshot, which has links to numerous maps including
Apple Maps, Bing Maps, Google Maps and OpenStreetMap.
At this point, the first time that you want to use the extension you will need to enable it.
Tap the button to the left of the address bar and choose “Manage Extensions”. It should
offer “Topo Maps 2 maps redirection”, which you can turn on.
If you now choose “Topo Maps 2 maps redirection” it will present a popup listing the
map links - if any - that it has found on the page. Tap “replace” to replace them
with link to the app.
On the web page, links that have been replaced should be indicated by a red border.
Tapping on one of these links should open Topo Maps 2, centered on that point i.e.
Mount Whitney in this case.
Feedback Needed
This feature is new and only a small range of web pages have been tested. If you
find web pages with map links that this extension doesn’t detect, do please tell us
and we may be able to add them in future updates.
